The Golden Age of the Printed Portfolio is Fading

How many of you find there’s less of a need for a printed portfolio? While certainly not gone, the golden age of the printed portfolio and traveling case has certainly faded with the increasing demand for online portfolios and marketing through social media.

Successful photographer Dana Neibert says, “Relics. We used to maintain 11 printed portfolios. Now my agent says they only need 4. So many jobs are booked purely off our web site without anyone ever seeing the printed books. So these 7 that used to fly around the world and strut into conference rooms like rocks stars are being banished to storage. Each book and case runs about $1,000. Such a shame!”
